Tip: There can be differences in resolution and capture date between current and original aerial imagery layers, so try them all and choose which one works best for your application.
Follow these steps to register, connect your software, and start viewing imagery.
All users need to register to access MapSavvy. Sign up using our free 14-day registration form — no credit card required. At any time you can upgrade via a purchase request. Purchasing MapSavvy removes the OnTerra Systems watermark from the imagery.
Once your account is activated, you'll receive a "Welcome to MapSavvy" email containing your personal access token and your ready-to-use service URLs.
Your welcome email includes your service URL with your access token already inserted, ready to copy into your client software. MapSavvy supports both WMS and WMTS — copy whichever your application uses:
Replace <token> with the unique access token from your welcome email (it's already inserted in the URLs we send you).
https:// is available by default, but the added encryption can slow map load times. Standard http:// is also available — if you prefer it, just remove the "s" from the start of the URL.
Paste your URL into any OGC-compliant WMS/WMTS client. The exact menu names vary by software, but the pattern is the same — add a new WMS or WMTS connection and paste in your MapSavvy URL. A few common clients:
MapSavvy offers imagery and map layers from three source data providers: Google Maps, Bing Maps, and HERE Technologies Maps. When your connection loads, you'll see the full list of available layers. Select the provider you want, then the map style — satellite/aerial, road, hybrid, terrain, and so on. (See the full layer list in the section above.)
Capture dates and resolution can differ between providers and between current and original aerial layers, so it's worth trying a few to find the best fit for your area and project.
Once a layer is selected, the imagery displays in your application. Zoom and pan to navigate to your area of interest and begin your work — overlaying your own data, measuring, digitizing, or exporting views for reports and presentations.
During the free trial, imagery carries an OnTerra logo watermark. Upgrading to a paid subscription removes it.
